About L-Plate

L-Plate helps learner drivers in Ireland understand the rules behind a theory-test answer. Start with a short practice test, work through explanations and topic guides, then use timed mocks to practise the car-test format.

Who publishes L-Plate?

L-Plate was founded by John Fox, an Ireland-based app founder. John publishes the service and its learner-driver guides. His byline identifies him as the founder, not as an RSA examiner or an Approved Driving Instructor.

L-Plate is an independent commercial service. We sell optional practice access and theory-test availability alerts. Our product comparisons therefore come from a publisher with a commercial interest in L-Plate. We are not affiliated with the RSA, Prometric or the official TheoryTest.ie service. Our practice questions are independent material.

Who is Brendan?

Brendan is L-Plate's fictional AI tutor and grumpy instructor character. His jokes, explanations and article voice belong to the product; they are not a real instructor's credentials, personal experience or endorsement. Articles using Brendan's voice are published by L-Plate.

AI helps create explanations and editorial drafts. It can make mistakes. Use the linked official source to check a rule, and ask a qualified instructor about applying it on the road.

How to read our guides

  • Check the source beside a claim. Booking, ID and test-format guidance refers to TheoryTest.ie; learner rules and training to the RSA; licensing and exchanges to NDLS. Legal detail needs the relevant legislation and context.
  • Distinguish facts from practice advice. Our worked examples and revision plans are learning aids. A practice score, study timetable or app purchase does not guarantee an official pass.
  • Read the date and scope. Articles show publication dates and, when substantively revised, update dates. A source checked on a given date may subsequently change. A national statistic does not establish a local pass rate.
  • Follow the official booking confirmation. Check current fees, accepted ID, eligibility and change deadlines with the official service before paying or travelling.

Our editorial approach is to correct and improve existing answers, link primary references and keep uncertainty visible. We do not claim that every page has been reviewed by a qualified driving instructor.

Theory tests, driving tests and appointment alerts

The theory test checks knowledge. The practical driving test assesses your driving after the required learner training. Our theory-test centre pages and practical driving-test centre guides keep those stages separate.

Queue Jumper monitors driver theory-test appointment availability at selected centres under its plan conditions. It does not monitor practical driving-test slots, reserve an appointment or guarantee an earlier date. You book through the official service.

Instructor directory evidence

Our instructor directory distinguishes a dated RSA register check from historical listing details and instructor-submitted information. An ADI number found in a register does not verify a phone number, lesson availability, service area or recommendation. Read each profile's source note and check the current RSA register before booking lessons.
