The good news: you don’t have to wait. Theory test results are immediate. You’ll know if you’ve passed within minutes of finishing the test.
Immediate Results
As soon as you submit your test, the system calculates your score instantly. The invigilator will hand you a printout showing:
- Your overall score (e.g., 37/40)
- Whether you passed or failed
- Your score by category
If You Pass
You’ll receive a theory test certificate at the test centre. This certificate is:
- Valid for 2 years
- Required when applying for your learner permit
- A huge relief after all that studying
If You Don’t Pass
You’ll see which categories pulled your score down. Use this information to focus your preparation for a retake. You can rebook immediately at theorytest.ie.
How Long Is the Certificate Valid?
Your theory test certificate is valid for 2 years from the date you pass. You need to apply for your learner permit within this window, or you’ll need to take the test again.
