Dublin is the busiest county in Ireland for theory test bookings, and the competition for slots is fierce. With multiple Prometric test centres across the city and county, you’d think availability would be grand — but demand consistently outstrips supply.
Dublin Theory Test Centres
There are several test centres serving Dublin:
- Finglas — one of the busiest in the country
- Tallaght — serves South Dublin and surrounding areas
- Dun Laoghaire — popular with south-side learners
- Swords — serves North County Dublin
Dublin City 2026 update: TheoryTest.ie announced a Dublin City test-centre relocation effective 26 May 2026. Always check the exact address in your Prometric booking confirmation before you travel.
Dublin Pass Rates
The RSA Annual Report 2024 records 144,708 passes from 207,089 delivered theory tests across categories (69.9% aggregate). That figure is not a first-attempt, car-only or county pass rate.
Waiting Times in Dublin
Appointment availability changes by centre and date. Check the official booking service for current availability; Queue Jumper monitors supported practical-driving-test centres and cannot guarantee an earlier slot.
How to Pass in Dublin
The test itself is identical no matter where you sit it — 40 questions, 45 minutes, 35 to pass. But Dublin learners tend to be younger on average and often underestimate the prep required.
- Start with category practice at least 2 weeks before your test
- Complete at least 3 full mock tests before the real thing
- Use the Am I Ready? tool to check your readiness score
- Focus on your weakest categories — most Dublin learners struggle with legal matters and hazard perception
Don’t Waste Your Slot
L-Plate provides independent practice questions covering the published Irish theory-test topics. It is not the official RSA or Prometric question bank.
